Obituary for James D. Burwell, Jr.
Jim (James) Dyer Burwell, Jr., local restaurateur, 75, passed on May 3, 2022. He was born to James Dyer Burwell, Sr. (Jimmy) and Pearl Noble Burwell in Jackson, Mississippi on November 16, 1946.
Jim was a proud graduate of Murrah High School in Jackson. He spent his freshman year at The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina and finished at "THE University of Mississippi", Mississippi State University. GO DOGS!!!! After receiving his degree in Accounting and Minor in Data Processing, he began forging his trail in the developing computer industry. It was only a matter of time until he started his 35 year career in the restaurant industry, alongside his little brother, Rusty, at Lloyd's Kitchen in Jackson.
During this time he married his sweetheart, Linda Seale Burwell and they lived and built restaurants together in Jackson, Mississippi. Together they raised 3 children Natalie Burwell Ray (Rand) of Ridgeland, Mississippi, Heather Burwell Barkley (Richard) of Rosharon, Texas and Hollie Burwell Hull (Brian) of Flowood, Mississippi. Jim is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Bracken, Greyton and Ainsley Ray, Chance (Brenda) and Tanner (Maggie) Barkley and Emma Blue, Jake and Cotton Hull and one precious great-granddaughter, Addy Barkley. Jim is also survived by his siblings, Steve Burwell of Virginia Beach, V.A., Judy (Marion) Kirk of Hoover, A.L., Rusty (Bobie) Burwell of Stanardsville, V.A. and sister-in-law, Sheryl Pettit of Jackson, Mississippi.
Visitation with the family from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, May 6th followed by an informal sharing of reflections service at 3 p.m. at Sebrell Funeral Home in Ridgeland. The Burial will be private in Jessamine Cemetery.
Jim had a love of family, food and numbers. He was a friend and mentor to those he worked with in his beloved restaurant industry. He was entrepreneurial. Among his greatest treasures were his wife, daughters and grandchildren. He made sure to let them all know how proud he was and how much he loved them prior to his passing. What a gift he has been to so many. Rest in Peace & Go Dawgs! We love you, Boppa! 11:11/2-22-22
