Obituary for James Terry “Jim” McCoy
James Terry "Jim" McCoy, 87, died June 10, 2021 at the Veterans Home in Jackson. Mr. McCoy was born on February 12, 1934, in Beaumont, MS, the son of the late C.B and Ethel McCoy.
A veteran he served his country in the United States Air Force for 7 years and 10 months. Mr. McCoy served in the Personnel Division. For his honorable service he was awarded the National Defense Medal and the Air Force Longevity Medal. Mr. McCoy retired from the Social Security Administration in 1985 where he served as a field auditor. He was a longtime member of McDowell Road Baptist Church.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Jean McCoy; son, James Terry McCoy, Jr and his siblings, Charles B McCoy, Jr, Anna Gaudreau and husband Roland, Virginia McClain and husband Mack, George McCoy and wife Mary, William McCoy and wife Marva Jayne.
Survivors include daughter, Lynn McCoy Brown, of McKinney, TX; son, Rodney Lee McCoy (Jamie), of Pearl; grandchildren:, Ashley Shelby (Chris), Doug Brown, Tyler McCoy and Sam McCoy (Lucia); great grandchildren, Peyton Shelby and Collin Shelby and Carter James McCoy. He also had many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
Mr. McCoy grew up playing baseball and he shared his knowledge and love of the sport as a youth baseball coach in Jackson, MS, for many years. He also enjoyed serving his community as a member of the Garden Park Exchange Club.
Visitation with the family will begin after 1:00 p.m. at Sebrell Funeral Home, Sunday, June 13, 2021 followed by a graveside service at 2:30 p.m. at Crestview Memorial Gardens in Brandon.
