Obituary for Jacqueline Smith Root
Jacqueline Smith Root passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2018, after fighting a long battle with leukemia. She was born on March 17, 1941, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and was the daughter of Sarah Pauline Lindsey Smith and Jack Eugene Smith, and stepdaughter of Mary Alice Roberts Smith. She was a graduate of Brandon High School, Jackson Commercial College, and attended Millsaps College. She was employed for many years at Taylor, Covington and Smith and was Vice President of Mississippi Valley Title Insurance Company. Jacqueline was full of life, and was passionate about her family, loved her many friends, helping others, playing bridge, and her church. She was especially known for her love of writing cards to all of her family and friends on special occasions. She volunteered for many organizations over the years, including the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra Association, the Jackson Symphony League, the March of Dimes, the Mississippi Museum of Art, and Goodwill Industries of Mississippi, Inc. Jacqueline is survived by her loving husband Jack Thomas Root, and daughters Lindy Root of New Orleans and Lara Ashley Coleman of Jackson, grandsons William Robert Coleman, III and Thomas Smith Coleman, brothers Jerry Eugene Smith (Susan) of Hattiesburg and Samuel Roberts Smith (Joyce) of Brandon, and many nieces and nephews. The family personally wants to thank Dr. Carolyn Bigelow, Carol Landsworth, and all the nurses and staff at 5BMT at University of Mississippi Medical Center, as well as all of the treatment staff at M.D. Anderson for their excellent care during her illness. Friends are invited to visitation with the family after 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 11, 2018 in the Great Hall of Northminster Baptist Church, 3955 Ridgewood Rd., where the Memorial Service will begin at 12:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary, Dr. Chuck Poole, Pastor, officiating. Family Inurnment to follow in the Columbarium of Northminster Baptist Church.
