Obituary for Iris Hare Summerford
Iris Hare Summerford, age 97, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 2, 2016,at the Morrison Manor in Laurinburg, NC. Born in Carrabus County, NC, on November 25, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Johnathan Worth Hare and Mae Christine Murph Hare. She married the love of her life, the late Bruce E. Summerford on April 2, 1938. She was a former member of Clio Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the church choir, served as Women of the Church president (W.O.C), and worked with the kids care program. She was currently a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Bennettsville. Her hobbies included crafts, sewing, cooking, and working in her flower garden.
Mrs. Iris is survived by her loving daughters, Pat Sebrell and husband Tommy of Jackson, MS, Norman Moody and husband John of Bennettsville and Chris Grantham and husband Frank of Hartsville; sisters, Arlene Beam of Kannapolis, NC and Barbara Wheeler of Gainesville, FL; by grandchildren, Trey Sebrell and wife Deborah of Madison, MS; Perry Langston and wife, Sharon Lee, Shawn Langston and wife, Amy Thomas, and Paul Moody, by great-grandchildren, Rachel Moody, Robert Lee, Johnathan Moody, Nora Thomas, Lydia Thomas, Cody Langston and Alexis Langston; and by one great-great grandson, Nathan Moody.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at Christ United Methodist Church in Bennettsville officiated by Pastor Rev. Wade Everett. The family will greet friends from 1:00 P.M. until funeral time at the church. Burial will follow at McLucas Cemetery in Clio. Mrs. Iris was preceded in death by her parents and husband listed above; by a brother, Jack Hare; and by sisters, Thersa Crawford and Anyce Rozanski.
