Obituary for Hugh P. Skinner
Hugh Percy Skinner died peacefully at home on July 22 at the age of 90.
Hugh grew up in Lexington, MS. He served as an Army sergeant in Korea and married Shirley Fowler in 1955. The two lived in Lexington and Durant before settling in Jackson.
As a young man, Hugh enjoyed hunting, fishing, and Lions Club activities. In Jackson, he was a member of Masonic Lodge and Briarwood Drive Church, and was employed as a salesman at Cowboy Maloney for 27 years. He was a member of MS Home Builders Association. In retirement, he and Shirley moved to the Pickens area where they became active with Master Gardeners and Cameron Community Club. They attended Rocky Hill Methodist Church and Pickens Baptist Church together.
Hugh is survived by his wife of 67 years, Shirley; his son Barry, of Pickens, daughter, Belinda and her husband Pete Block, of Iowa and New York, grandchildren, David Block, of Iowa and New York, and Haley Block, of New York City; a great granddaughter Elaine Block, of California; and his younger brother, Dr. David Skinner, of Olive Branch.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27 at Rocky Hill Cemetery, 557 Rocky Hill Rd, Pickens, MS 39146, with Rev. Nolan Whitehead officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Sebrell Funeral Home, Ridgeland.
