Hilda McKenzie Salers passed away on September 4th, 2022, at St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson, MS. She was born on August 18th, 1941, in Tylertown, Mississippi to the late Floyd Thomas and Mary Frances Brumfield McKenzie. She was also preceded in death by her brothers Dub and Larry McKenzie, and her sisters Audrey Lewis, Donis Brenteson, Carolyn Bergeron, and Winnie Mae McKenzie.
Hilda will be remembered as a strong independent woman with a great sense of humor. She worked as a successful salesperson in the automotive and manufactured housing industries. She loved to bake, especially for the holidays, always showing up with delicious desserts at any party. Her sour cream poundcakes were a family favorite. Her laughter was so contagious, there are stories of us almost getting kicked out of places, which only made us laugh harder. She will always be remembered for her fun-loving nature, cracking jokes with her nurses and caregivers to the very end, but also as a hard worker who retired only a few years ago.
She loved her family and will be greatly missed by us all. She was the loving mother of Lamar and Sonya Salers, and greatly adored her two grandchildren, Kylie and Bennett. She is also survived by her brother Nelson McKenzie, her sisters Sylvia Bellau and Lucy Saia, and her many beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Sebrell Funeral Home in Ridgeland, MS Sept. 17th, 2022, from 3-5pm with a family graveside service to be held at Boyd Cemetery in Salem, MS at a later date.
