Obituary for Helon Hodge Ray
Helon H. Ray, 96, passed away on July 12, 2022. Helon was born on June 23, 1926 in Calhoun County, MS. Helon met Jim J. Ray in Calhoun City, MS during high school. They were married for 69 years at the time of Jim’s death in 2016.

Helon loved everything about life. She taught her 3 children to make the most of every day and the truth of “the only things you have in life are the things you give away.” Helon was a friend to all - whether it was the ladies of the Paden Street Bridge Club, her co-workers at the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks where she worked until she was 79, or the neighbors in Sherbourne Subdivision. She is best remembered as “Gran” to her 5 granddaughters who “loved her so good” and who have many precious memories of their time together.

Helon is survived by Bo and Linda Ray,(Everett, Washington); David Ray and Kate Sharp, (Ridgeland), Ken and Peg Guthrie, (Madison), Beau, Sara and Miles Burdick, (Everett, Washington); Kelsey Ray, (Bellingham, Washington); Peter, Jessica and Holden Gay, (Denver, Colorado); Emily Guthrie and Jason Prapas, (Petaluma, California); Anna “Boo” Guthrie, (Madison, MS). Gran’s family is forever grateful to her wonderful caregivers, Leslie Lampkin and Barbara Moore.

A private burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Jackson, MS.
