Obituary for Gwyndolyn Daniels Bourne
Gwyndolyn Daniels Bourne, 73, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on August 16, 2022. Gwyn was born on July 8, 1949 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to Harold and Elizabeth Daniels. She graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School and Wake Forest University. Gwyn married the love of her life, Larry Bourne of Columbia, Mississippi in 1974 and relocated to Mississippi.They have two daughters, Amanda Elizabeth and Kathryn Ella (Kate). Once both girls entered school, she followed her passion and became a teacher at Ridgeland Elementary which is now named Ann Smith Elementary after her mentor, principal Ann Smith. She taught for twenty two years and received many honors including teacher of the year. She retired in 2009 and became a grandmother in 2012 which she later called her “dream job”. One of her greatest joys was being able to care for her grandchildren while her daughter worked. Gwyn was an active member of Madison United Methodist Church since 1986 and served in various roles as well as mission activities. Gwyn is survived by her husband of 48 years, Larry C. Bourne, daughters Amanda Elizabeth Bourne and Kate Bourne Colbert (William) both of Madison, Mississippi; grandchildren Ella Bourne Colbert and Lawson Gray Colbert. Gwyn is also survived by her brother Charles Lee Daniels, Sr (Donna) of Yadkinville, North Carolina as well as a niece and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and older brother Robert Orris Daniels. Visitation will be held at Madison United Methodist Church, 100 Post Oak Road, Madison, Mississippi on Saturday, August 20, 2022 from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm with a memorial service to follow. The family would like to thank Mississippi HomeCare Home Health as well as Baptist Hospice for their care and compassion during this difficult time.
