Obituary for Glayds Anne Macke
Gladys was born on March 5, 1933, in Pearl, MS, the daughter of the late Phillip and Ada Pellagreno. A graduate of Forrest County High School, she continued her education in nursing training where she met and later married , Sylvester Macke.
A resident of Clinton since 1963, she was very active in her community. Gladys was a member of the Camilla Garden Club of Clinton, Daughters of the American Revolution, where she served as regent for several years. She was also and an actress appearing in the restaurant scene in Mississippi Burning , she also read fir numerous for numerous productions of local movies, and was a regular contributor to the Clinton News. She was active in both state and local politics and ran four times for Mayor in Clinton.
A faithful Catholic, Gladys was one of fifteen families who founded Holy Savior Catholic Church in Clinton, where she served as the church organist. Currently, Gladys was a communicant of The Cathedral of St. Peter the Apostle, where she used her gift of voice to sing in the choir.
Gladys assisted her husband in their business, Mid-South Brokers for many years.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester Macke .Sr. a son Sylvester Macke, Jr., and daughter-in-law, Regina O. Macke.
Survivors include: son, Brian Macke of Pearl; Michael Macke of Jackson; Sylvia McGowan and husband, Lloyd; son, Edward Macke ok Jackson; Sean Macke of Texas; James Macke of Texas; 11 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and one great- great grandchild.
