Obituary for Gladys Puckett Purser
Gladys Puckett Purser, 91, resident of Highland Home and formerly at Lakeland Nursing & Rehab went home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 6, 2021. A native of Magee, MS, she lived the majority of her adult life in Clinton, MS, and later in life, resided in Brandon and Ridgeland, MS. She was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church, which she loved, and she enjoyed the fellowship of the women in the Joy/Love Sunday school class. She was married to Vernon E. Purser for 39 years until his death in 1997. We believe that he, along with her parents, Louie and Mattie Puckett, and her four siblings, E. L. Puckett, Louise Mangum, Gaynelle Shows and Patsy Morris, as well as many other friends and family, are greeting her arrival to their heavenly home. She is survived by her three daughters, Brenda Wheatley of Ridgeland, MS, Judy Hemphill (Bobby) and Donna O’Keefe (Keith) of Madison, MS, as well as her dearly loved grandchildren, Dianne Allen of Ridgeland, MS, Shelley Partridge of Ava, IL, Taylor Hemphill (Hannah) of Memphis, TN, Chris Hemphill (Jorie) of Brandon, MS, Ashley O’Keefe of Nashville, TN, and Kyle O’Keefe of Madison, MS, along with one great-grandchild, Jacob Partridge. Mrs. Purser was retired from AT&T and then enjoyed working briefly in the law library at Mississippi College School of Law. She was an avid Bulldog and loved watching Mississippi State sports, traveling with her sisters, and visiting and playing cards with special friends. The family would like to thank the many caregivers at Lakeland Nursing and Rehab as well as Highland Home for their compassionate care. The family will remember and celebrate her life on Saturday, January 9, during a graveside service at Magee Cemetery in Magee, MS. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Senior Adult Ministry at Ridgecrest Baptist Church, Madison, MS, would be greatly appreciated.
