Obituary for Geraldine Burns
Geraldine McVey Burns passed away at her residence in Madison, MS, Saturday, December 28, 2019. She was 81 years young. She was born July 7th, 1938 in Prentiss County, MS to the late Judd and Pearl McVey. Geraldine was an active member of First Baptist Church Madison.
She served on multiple mission trips across the globe. One of her fond memories was in Nottingham, Great Britain, where she met lifelong friends; She volunteered with both Roving Volunteers In Christ’s Service (RVICS) and Child Evangelism Fellowship (C.E.F.) serving on many trips. Geraldine did not meet a stranger; she had a heart of love and enjoyed serving others. She was outspoken for the things she believed in and had a passion for bringing children to Christ.
After going through heart surgery, she spoke to women’s groups to educate and encourage them as they were going through the same trials she had been through. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who will be greatly missed.
Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Hayden Burns; her son, James Hayden Burns, Jr. and his wife Debbie; granddaughters, Lindsey Sartin and her husband Ryan and Victoria Gardener and her husband Chris; great grandchildren, Jacob and Dylon Sartin, Brianna Tripp and Lillian Gardener. Funeral Services will be Thursday, January 2nd, 2020 at First Baptist Church Madison at 11 AM with Dr. Falvey officiating. Visitation begins at 10 AM until 11 AM. Burial will take place Friday, January 3rd, 2020 at 11:30 AM in Baldwyn at Prentiss Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers please donate to Child Evangelism Fellowship Headquarters in MO or St. Jude Children’s Hospital in memory Geraldine Burns.
