Obituary for George Matthew Vining, Jr.
George Matthew Vining, Jr., 87, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family on June 4, 2018. Mr. Vining was born to George Vining and Tillie Elizabeth Sizemore. He was raised mostly in Jackson and graduated from Central High School in 1948. Mr. Vining worked for a number of years for Mississippi Valley Gas Company in Columbus and Jackson. He was actively involved in many organizations, including: Boys and Girls Club; Keep Jackson Beautiful; Southern Christian Services; the Homebuilders Association; and the Rotary Club. He especially enjoyed being a part of the Central High Class of 1948 committee and enjoyed all of his reunions. Mr. Vining was better known as “Ding” to his family. He was greatly loved and will be sorely missed. His wife of 41 years, Jo Anne, preceded him in death a year ago and he was looking forward to reuniting with her and other family and loved ones including his brother, Jim Jordan, also preceded him in death. Mr. Vining is survived by his children: David Vining, Diane Myers, Jana Truitt (Randy), Bill Jordan, and Mart Jordan; grandchildren: Holli Jordan, Katie Manning, Matt Truitt, Avery Martin, Parker Martin, Maegan Blakemore, Paul Jordan, Rick Jordan, Jake Jordan, Eastin Jordan, Jonathan Jordan, Scott Vining, Blake Vining and Michelle Gaugh; great grandchildren: Georgia Jordan, Rhodes Truitt, Garner Truitt, and Olivia Manning. Services for George will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 11 o’clock in the morning at First Christian Church, 645 Briarwood Dr., Jackson, with visitation at 10 o’clock in the morning prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Southern Services for Children and Youth, 860 E. River Place, Jackson, MS 39202 or to the First Christian Church, Jackson. Sebrell Funeral Home in Ridgeland handling arrangements.
