Obituary for George Kavanaugh Farr, Jr.
George Kavanaugh Farr, Jr., 94, died Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at St. Dominic Hospital. A private graveside service for the family will be held at Natchez Trace Memorial Park.
Mr. Farr was born on December 1, 1926 in Flora, the son of the late George Kavanaugh Farr, Sr., and Lizette Harris Farr. A graduate of Central High School, he continued his education earning a Bachelor of Administration from the University of Mississippi. As a student at Ole Miss, he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. A veteran, Mr. Farr served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He worked for 35 years for the Chamber of Commerce of Jackson, first as membership director and eventually General Manager, a position he held until retirement.
Mr. Farr was cherished by his family and supported his children’s athletic and Boy Scout events. As a coach, scout leader or spectator, he was always there for his family.
Mr. Farr was as a longtime member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of the Deacons and a Sunday school teacher. He was a current member of First Baptist Church of Jackson.
Mr. Farr was a lifelong and avid Ole Miss Rebel fan.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Eleanor Farr of Jackson; son, George Kavanaugh Farr, III and his wife Shelley of Sarasota, FL; son, Jerry Farr and his wife Jonna of Brandon; grandchildren, Christen El Sawy and her husband Kareem of Venice, CA; Brittany Farr of Nashville, TN; Adam Chartrand of Ocala, FL; Tyler Chartrand of Sarasota FL; Henry Farr of Jackson; Ellen Claire Farr of Flowood; Ashleigh Picou and husband Chris and Dusty Welch and his wife Pepper of Jackson.
Mr. Farr is also survived by his great grandchildren, Lilia El Sawy, who shares the same birthday as her great grandfather; Kallie and Addison Chartrand; Zachary Curtis and Brockston Picou; Cheyenne Welch, and Kylee and Kannon Smith.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church or the University of Mississippi.
