Franklin Jennings Bryan, Jr.
Franklin “Frank” Jennings Bryan, Jr., 78, of Jackson, Mississippi passed away at his home on June 18, 2022.
Frank was born on August 17, 1943, to Franklin Jennings and Marie Awtry Bryan of West Point,
Mississippi.
Butch, as he was known in West Point, attended Chamberlain Hunt Academy in
Port Gibson, MS and graduated from West Point High School in 1961. After high school, Frank
joined the Army National Guard where he served as a Medic. Following discharge, he attended
Mississippi State University and Mississippi College.
Franks career began in the banking business in Memphis and continued in Jackson. In 1977, he
and his brother, John, opened Bryan True Value Hardware store in Colonial Mart. Frank was
elected as the first Republican Hinds County Supervisor following Reconstruction serving from
1984-1988. He spent many years in the sales industry, ending his career in builder sales with
Cowboy Maloneys.
Frank is preceded in death by his parents, his sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Wally
Conerly, his nephew, Chip Bryan and his granddaughter, Kitty Bright Geter.
He is survived by the love of his life of 44 years, Flo Tipton Bryan, his daughters, Marie Hill
(Reed) of Jackson and Sue Geter (Joey) of Brownsville, TN. He was known as “Pop Pop” to his
five grandchildren, Louis, Florence Anne, and Jennings Hill and Bryan and Henry Geter whom
he loved so much and who loved and adored him too. He is also survived by his brother and
sister-in-law, John and Margaret Bryan of Gainesville, GA, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law,
Sue and Hugh Harvey of Jackson, TN., brother in law and sister in law, Tommy and Paula
Tipton of Brownsville, TN., and many nieces and nephews.
Frank left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He was known for his infectious laugh,
quick whit, and great dance moves. He was a special man who loved his family and set a
wonderful example of what a great husband and father should be.
A visitation will be held in The Great Hall at Christ United Methodist Church in Jackson on
Thursday, June 23, 2022, from 2:00-4:30. A graveside service will be held at a later date at
Oakwood Cemetery in Brownsville, TN.
