Obituary for Flora Johnson Dungan Blaylock
Flora Johnson Dungan Blaylock died on Monday, November 30, 2020 at Kings Daughters Medical Center in Brookhaven. She was 84.
A native and lifelong resident of Copiah County and born December 13, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Alvin Charley Johnson and the late Ola Jernigan Johnson.
Mrs. Blaylock was a graduate of Hinds Community College where she received her degree in nursing. She was a devoted and dedicated Registered Nurse whose career spanned almost 40 years in her service to the profession and in her care of others. She had worked as an RN for the former Hinds General Hospital, Hardy Wilson Medical Center in Hazlehurst, Pinecrest Nursing Home, Silver Cross Nursing Home, and Copiah Living Center. She was a former RN Supervisor at Kings Daughters in Brookhaven.
Flora was a wonderfully compassionate person who loved the Lord, her family, animals, and the color purple. She was the hardest working wife, mother and RN. At one time she had three jobs while also raising and tending to her family who adored her. She believed in education and helped in any way others in her community to become more educated and attain job skills. Her love of animals had her especially drawn for a fondness to hummingbirds, which seemed to surround her in life. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, great grandmother, aunt and friend.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, David “Jimmie” Dungan; second husband, Sherman Blaylock; grandsons, Charles Jason McClelland and Joshua McClelland; and brothers, R.F. Johnson, James Johnson, and Franklin Johnson.
She is survived by her daughters, Dorothy McClelland and Judy Williams (Bill); son, Robert Dungan; sister, Charlotte Johnson; brothers, Sidney Johnson, John Clarke (Peggy), and Daniel Johnson (Liz); grandsons, Robert “Robbie” Gove and Cole Williams; great grandchildren, Charles “Nick” McClelland and Brianna McClelland; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at Gallman Baptist Church, 3040 W Gallman Rd in Gallman, the Rev. Dave Qualls officiating. Visitation will be held from 12 Noon until the hour of the service at the church. Interment will follow in Johnson Memorial Cemetery in Crystal Springs.
