Obituary for Eugene "Gene" William Albrecht
CAPT. EUGENE “GENE” W. ALBRECHT, USN, RET.
Eugene “Gene” William Albrecht died on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at his home in Madison. He was 87.
A native of Elgin, IL, he was born June 30, 1933 and raised in Elmhurst, IL, the son of the late William and Bertha Greve Albrecht. After attending the University of Illinois, he enlisted in the United States Navy and entered the NavCad program in Pensacola and Brownsville, Texas, where he was an aviation cadet and received his flight training. Thus began his long and dedicated service to our country as a Navy pilot and flight instructor. He retired with the rank of Captain following 34 years of honorable service.
Mr. Albrecht will be remembered as a kind, compassionate, and generous man who was a keen problem solver; his patience and wisdom offered guidance in the right direction. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, mentor, and friend. He had a passion for building model airplanes, particularly every type of aircraft he had ever piloted over his many years with the Navy.
He was a member of Madison United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Laurel C. Albrecht; sons, Steve Albrecht (Kay), of Prescott, AZ; Scott Albrecht (Marie), of Brandon; Mark Albrecht (Lindsey), of Napa, CA; and Paul Albrecht (Angie), of Harahan, LA; grandchildren: Christopher, Cristianne, Bryan, Kiya, Ania, Brianna, Ayden, Brooks, Graham, and Tucker; and a host of other relatives.
Due to COVID mandates, the family will hold a private service on Wednesday, November 4, 2020. Rev. Ben Butler of Madison United Methodist Church will officiate. The service will be live streamed at 10:00 a.m. by visiting the link on the Facebook page of Sebrell Funeral Home.
Interment with Full Military Honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 5, 2020 at Barrancas National Cemetery at Naval Air Station Pensacola.
