Obituary for Ernest "Jerry" Gerald Vanlandingham
Ernest “Jerry” Gerald Vanlandingham, 77, passed away at his home in Madison on Friday, August 18, 2017 surrounded by his loving wife and family. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 23, 2017 beginning at 1:00PM, one hour prior to the Memorial Service at 2:00PM, all at St. Columb’s Episcopal Church, 550 Sunnybrook Drive, Ridgeland, MS. Jerry served all his entire life in one capacity or another. Jerry retired as Chief Warrant Officer 4, after serving 21 years with the U.S. Army. Jerry served two combat tours in the Republic of Vietnam, earning two Bronze Star Medals, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device 60, and the Vietnam Service Medal. Jerry then went on to retire from the Jackson, MS VA Medical Center as an IT Specialist. Jerry served as, Junior Warden, Layreader, trained acolytes, and was a much loved member of St. Columb’s Episcopal Church. Jerry was also famous for his red beans and rice recipe which can now be found on the specials menu at Georgia Blue restaurant. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Davis Vanlandingham and Hattie Lavelle Timms, and brothers David and Robert. He is survived by his adoring wife of 59 years, Gloria “Sherry” Vanlandingham; son, Scott Vanlandingham; daughters, Denise McNutt and Terri Horton; brothers, Jack and Johnny; sisters, Linda, Susan and Judy; 8 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and his adoring dogs Ernie and Boudreaux. In lieu of flowers, Jerry asked that donations be made to St. Columb’s Episcopal Church in Ridgeland, MS.
