Emma Hinton of Pearl, Mississippi, went home to her Lord and Savior on Friday, November 11, 2022.
Emma was 104 years old. Born on July 14, 1918, said she never really knew the definition of “old.” She was still driving to church when she was 95 and mowed her lawn well into her 90s.
Emma persevered through many difficulties. Losing her husband to death early in their marriage, she raised three children by working many jobs over the years. She was known for great and tasty meals, excellent housekeeping and above all, her passion to serve others in her Sunday School at Crossgates Baptist Church in Brandon, MS, all the while with a youthful spirit.
Close family knew she walked with Jesus, but at age 100 when they stepped up spiritual discussions at her house, all were somewhat amazed she could still recall the Word of God in great detail! Family and friends would play games as to who could identify particular scriptures, and Emma would win most every time.
If you ever want to hear some special heavenly prayer at her home, just stick around for mealtime. As Emma blessed the food, you won’t want to be too hungry, as her prayers included all the neighbors as well as the men and women in uniform, as her husband was in the military. Ironically, Emma went to be with the Lord on Veteran’s Day.
In Emma’s last years, her son, Irvin, was by her side faithfully serving her.
Emma’s favorite words in time of distress that would bring her comfort were: “Christ in you, Christ with you and Christ for you.” She would often say those words as she reached out to Him and His presence. We know she is right there celebrating with Him now!
Emma was preceded in death by her parents William Rufus Wiley Freeman and Minnesota Meadows Freeman; one brother and seven sisters; her husband Irvin Ray Hinton and daughter DeMmarrais Hinton.
Emma is survived by Irvin Hinton of Pearl, MS; Emma Rae Stevens of Oklahoma; six grandchildren: Tammy Meshell (Gary); Mary Ann Walton; Jessica Bishop (David); Erica Gearing; Jonathan Gearing; Jacob Gearing (Tiffany); six great-grandchildren and seventeen great-great grandchildren.
Viewing will be at Sebrell Funeral Home in Ridgeland, MS on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, from 11:00 am-1:00 pm followed by a service at 1:00 pm.
A private burial will take place at Seminary Baptist Church Cemetery in Hintonville, MS.
