Obituary for Emily Frances Foil Lee
Visitation for Frances F. Lee will be held 4:30 to 6:00 pm, Thurs., Aug. 15, 2019, at Sebrell Funeral Home in Ridgeland, MS, with a memorial service to follow interment at Ponemah Cemetery in Bogalusa, LA, at a later date (TBA). A longtime resident of Bogalusa, Mrs. Lee, 91, died Aug. 11, 2019, in hospice care at Clinton Healthcare, LLC, after a protracted illness. Born in Bogalusa on May 31, 1928, Mrs. Lee lived there most of her life, graduating Bogalusa High School as midterm valedictorian in 1945. She earned a bachelors degree at Louisiana College and a masters degree at the University of Southern Mississippi. Mrs. Lee taught history and Spanish at Bogalusa Junior High School and served as counselor there until she retired. She was an active member of Superior Avenue Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and served as church pianist for over forty years. Active in civic and professional life, as well, Mrs. Lee was a member of the Bogalusa Civic League, Ingleside Quorum, Kappa Kappa Iota, and served on the board of Louisiana College. Mrs. Lee is survived by her daughter, Susan Shivers (Robert) of Clinton, MS; grandson, Sam Shivers (Lacey) and great-grandsons, Mathew and Christopher Shivers of Titusville, FL; nephew, David Foil, Jr., of New York City; and grand-nephews, Chris Landry (Ashley) of Hattiesburg, MS and Briant Landry (Jennifer) of Baton Rouge, LA. “[Our] memories brim with gratitude and wonder at her goodness, kindness, and devotion.” She is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L.B. Foil of Bogalusa; sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jay J. Piccinati of Bogalusa; brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. David L. Foil, Sr., of Alexandria, LA; and nieces, Janet Piccinati Landry (Michael) of Cloud Croft, NM and the Rev. Nancy Foil of Alexandria, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts be made to Superior Avenue Baptist Church, 439 Superior Ave., Bogalusa, LA 70427, or a charity of choice.
