Obituary for Emily Broome McAdory
Emily Broome McAdory was 99 years old when she passed away last Friday, May 14, 2021, in Tupelo, MS. Emily was born May 22, 1921, in Prentiss, MS as one of eight children to Emma Dickens Broome and Edward Roscoe Broome. Emily graduated from Baptist Nursing School May 7, 1944, as a registered nurse and worked surgery until 1949. She then began a clinical career with Dr. Baines and later Dr. Buckley and retired from practice in 1983. Emily married J.D. McAdory on November 23, 1946, after which they resided in Jackson, MS for the remainder of their marriage. Emily and J.D. had one son, David Garland. Emily loved working with plants in her garden and flowerbeds. She was also an avid cross-stitcher and very active in church Sunday school and women’s groups. She is preceded in death by her husband, J.D., her son, David Garland, and her grandson David Garland Jr, and her parents, Emma Dickens Broome and Edward Roscoe Broome, and her siblings Bayard Lamar Broome, Robert Bryan Broome, Mary Lee Parkman, Hazel Ray Barlow, James Russell Broome, Garland Roscoe Broome, Annie Lou Goodin, Dorothy Jean Ashcraft and John Lewis Broome. She is survived by her three grandsons, Matthew Davis (Elizabeth), Richard Stephen (Jennifer), and James Davis (Taylor) and great-grandchildren Hampton Davis, Stephen Briggs, Meyers James and Emma Jane. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gateway Missions or French Camp Academy of Mississippi.
