Emilie Ward Montgomery - a truly kind soul and lover of all animals - was born September 9, 1957, in Starkville, MS. She died on November 10, 2022 at Merit Central Hospital in Jackson, MS.
Though born in the Mississippi hills, Emilie spent most of her life in her beloved Delta. Emilie attended school in Cleveland, MS and MS Delta Community College. She spent much of her adult life in Drew, MS, where she worked for a time as the Center Director for the MS Delta Community College branch in Drew. She was a talented artist who enjoyed painting, crocheting and making jewelry. She was known for her beautiful rosaries that she made for family and friends. Emilie was a loyal MSU fan who cheered on the Bulldogs any time there was an opportunity to do so. She could light up a room with her jolly laugh and was an entertaining storyteller.
Emilie is preceded in death by her father, John Joseph Montgomery, and her stepfather, Richard L. Biles.
She is survived by her mother, Dr. Martha Biles, her sister Kim Davis (Rick), her nephew, Richard Davis (Mandy), niece, Sidney Davis Ferris (David), and great nieces Tinsley and Metta Margaret Ferris, and great nephew, Oliver Ward Davis all of whom she loved dearly. She also leaves behind many friends, including her“Over the Hill” gang and her beloved dogs and cats whom she dedicated her life to rescuing and caring for over the years.
The family will have a private memorial at later date. Her ashes will be interned to rest in perpetuity alongside her family in their plot in Starkville. You would honor her memory by making a donation to ARF in Jackson or to any animal shelter.
