Obituary for Elizabeth (Lib) Dubberley Allison
Elizabeth (Lib) Dubberley Allison, 97, died on Friday, September 4, 2020, at Saint Dominic Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. Due to Corona Virus Pandemic guidelines there will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held at Saint Columb’s Episcopal Church, 550 Sunnybrook Road, Ridgeland, Mississippi 39157, at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 for the family and Saint Columb’s parishioners. Masks, social distancing and other health guidelines will be followed. Following the service, a private family graveside service will be held at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Lib was the youngest of five children born to P. R. Dubberley and Minnie Beech Dubberley. She was born on November 5, 1922 in Tallassee, Alabama. She was a graduate of Alabama State College for Women, now known as the University of Montevallo.

After graduating from Montevallo, she married Lawrence E. Allison on September 2, 1945. He was then serving as a pilot in the United States Army Air Corps. After he was discharged from the Army, he was employed by a natural gas distribution company and they moved to Mississippi.

Lib was a “stay-at-home-mom” until their children graduated from high school. She then began a career as a special education teacher. She taught in the Jackson Public Schools until her retirement.

Lib was a longtime and faithful member of Saint Columb’s Episcopal Church, which she served as Senior Warden, a member of the Vestry, a member of the Altar Guild, and a member of ECW and Daughters of the King.

She was a founder and longtime volunteer worker for Iona House of Saint Columb’s food pantry, and served as a member of the Board of Directors for Heritage School. She served as a member of the Board of Directors and as a volunteer worker for Stewpot Community Services. She utilized her teaching experience as a volunteer tutor in the “second chance” GED/Adult Education Program established by then Sheriff Malcolm McMillin for the men and women housed in the Hinds County Jail. She was a firm believer in community service, and actively supported many other public service programs.

Lib enjoyed reading and travel, but most of all she loved and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, all of whom will miss her.

Her survivors include: her son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence E. Allison, Jr. and Lee Ross Allison; her granddaughters, Courtney Bush (Jason) and Lauren Hayes (Robby); her great grandchildren, Anna Claire Bush, Caroline Bush, Maggie Hayes, Mary Allison Hayes and John Andrew Hayes; and her four nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Lawrence E. Allison; her daughter, Nena Elizabeth Allison; her parents, Presley Reneau Dubberley and Minnie Beech Dubberley; her sister, Irene Dubberley Andrews (James); her brothers, Reneau Beech Dubberley (Annie Cannon), John Alexander Dubberley (Nina) and Charles Allen Dubberley (Sally); and her niece, Irene Dubberley.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Saint Columb’s Episcopal Church or to Iona House (550 Sunnybrook Road, Ridgeland, MS 39157); or to Stewpot Community Services (1100 West Capitol Street, Jackson, MS 39203); or to the charity of your choice.
