Obituary for Elizabeth Adair “Betty” Roberts Rowland

Elizabeth Adair “Betty” Roberts Rowland, 98, died March 15, 2023, at St. Catherine’s Village in Madison, Mississippi. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 14, 2023, at Lakewood Memorial Park.


Betty, the daughter of the late Horace S. Roberts and Hazel Dorothy Dixon, was born on July 19, 1924, in Natchez, Mississippi. She was a graduate of LSU and was a member of Phi Mu sorority.


Betty, a communicant of St. James’ Episcopal Church, spent the majority of her life in Jackson, Mississippi until moving to St. Catherine’s in 2007.


She worked for many years at Baptist Hospital and Mississippi Heart Association.

Betty enjoyed playing bridge, gardening, and her volunteer work.


Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph “Gus”

Rowland; son, The Reverend Joseph Dixon Rowland; and daughter Cathy

Rowland Culberson.


Betty is survived by her daughter; Dorothy Rowland Harlow, 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, daughter-in-law Gail L. Rowland and sons-in-law, Rick Culberson and Ken Harlow.


In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to Southern

Christian Services for Children and Youth, designated to The Joe Rowland Home for Boys (http://www.scscy.org) or The Mississippi Heart Association.
