Obituary for Earl Wayne Taylor, Sr.
Earl Wayne Taylor, Sr. of Canton, Mississippi stepped on his final “Stepping Stone” to heaven on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, surrounded by his family. He had fought a battle with cancer and that battle is now won. Earl was born October 2, 1934, in Duck Hill, MS to the late James and Ethel Taylor. Earl built a house of love and joy and is survived by his wife of 62 years, June Moss Taylor, his three children, Earl Wayne Taylor Jr. (Nancy), Priscilla Lott (Clyde), and Rechelle Chaney (David); five grandchildren, Anthony Acy, Alison Spivey, Courtney Lacey, Jacob Lott, and Aaron Chaney; eight great grandchildren, Abbie Lacey, Tucker Wayne Chaney, Caleb Lacey, Sarah Pulliam, Colby Acy, Ashlyn Acy, Starr Spivey, Daniel Spivey; and two great-great grandchildren, Maddie Claire Pulliam and Kristen Brielle Acy. In addition, Earl is survived by brothers, James (Beverly) Taylor, Jack (Cheryl) Taylor, Marvin (Jackie) Taylor, Bill (Bonnie) Taylor, and Bob (Teresa) Taylor; sisters, Mary Ethel Bowles and Betty (Terry) Ellington of and a host of nieces and nephews, close friends and extended family. Along with his parents, Earl was also preceded in death by his brothers, Cecil Paul, Charles, Jimmy Taylor; his sister, Ola Pearl Carmichael. Earl Wayne worked hard for his family. He was a welder, mechanic and an avid farmer of their summer garden. He loved bluegrass music and would sing and play instruments from guitar, banjo, and his favorite, the mandolin. He wrote several songs but one of the favorites is “Stepping Stone”. He never met a stranger and loved the simple things of life such as sitting on the porch and watching the birds and wind in the trees. He had a kind and gentle spirit and was one of the most tenderhearted men that you could ever meet. While Earl Wayne will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him, he is in a better place and ran this race of life with kindness, respect, integrity, simplicity, and humbleness. A memorial service will be held at Apostolic Lighthouse Church, 1529 Highway 43 North, Saturday, January 2, 2021 at 3:00 pm. To help with those that are not able to attend, the service will be live streamed. The family request that social distancing, masks, and no close contact be made so that everyone can stay healthy in this pandemic. Following the service, a private graveside farewell will be held.
