Dr. George C. Hamilton Jr. Age 90, passed away peacefully Monday, October 3rd surrounded by family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 6, 2022 at St. Paul's Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the First Baptist Church Cemetery in Fannin. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.
George, aka “Rowdy” was born February 10, 1932 in McComb, Mississippi to his mother Jewele De Arman and father George Hamilton Senior. George was the youngest of 4 children, he attended high school in Bay, St. Louis Mississippi, at St. Stanislaus before attending LSU where he met and fell in love with his lifetime partner Peggy Anne Messick. At LSU he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and a member of the ROTC. After attending LSU he completed his flight training and proudly served in the Air National Guard and completed his studies at Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama. During his time in the Air National Guard, George attended the University of Mississippi Medical School where he completed his studies and became a psychiatrist. He was in private practice from 1965 to 1998, where he helped to found Riverside Hospital and River Oaks Hospitals. George and Peggy were the proud parents of seven children and grandparents to 23 grandchildren, and great grandparents to eight and counting. George and Peggy spent their entire adult lives in the Jackson area where they were communicants at St. Richards and St. Paul parishes. George loved tennis and was a member of River Hills Country Club for many years. His true love was his farm in Fanin where he raised Belgian horses and mules and spent time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. George became a self taught wood carver who loved song birds and the wildlife on his farm. He spent the remaining years of his life at St. Catherines.
He was preceded in death by his wife Peggy Messick Hamilton, his daughter Debra Marie Hinton, and his granddaughter Katlin Anne Shurden. He is survived by his six children, George (Lynn) Hamilton, Keith Hamilton, Gina (Darius) Shurden, Fran (Chuck) Mobley, Trisha (Michael) Artigues.
He is survived by his 23 grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.
