Obituary for Dr. Carroll Edward "Dee" Jarvis
Dr. Carroll Edward “Dee” Jarvis, 88, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 17, 2019. He was born September 6, 1930, in the Meadow Creek Community to Judge and Mrs. Raymond Tyre Jarvis, the second of three boys. He and his brothers Ray and Cob were raised in Booneville where they were standouts on the football, basketball and baseball teams. Dee graduated from Booneville High, Northeast Mississippi Junior College and the University of Mississippi, where he lettered in baseball. He holds additional degrees from Southwestern Theological Seminary, Louisiana State University, and Northeastern University. While a student at Southwestern Seminary he met the love of his life, Billie Jo Stroud of Baton Rouge. They were married August 28, 1953. This 60 year union produced four children: Carol Jo, Lisa Denise, Edward Wayne and Dean Alan. Four children could not have asked for better parents than Dee and Billie Jarvis, who loved them lavishly and unconditionally. Dr. Jarvis had a varied career and retired as a counseling psychologist from the Veterans Administration. After his retirement, he and Billie enjoyed traveling around the United States, always returning with wonderful memories, funny stories, several rolls of film, and souvenirs for the grandchildren. He was a member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church for nearly 60 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Jo, his parents, Raymond Tyre and Edna Earl Hardy Jarvis, his brothers Raymond Earl and Robert Winston “Cob” Jarvis and a son-in-law, Wes Moore. He is survived by his children, Carol Jo Jones (Bob), Lisa Moore, Eddie Jarvis (Kris), and Dean Jarvis (Lynn); a beloved sister-in-law, Judy Jarvis of Eutaw, Alabama; five grandchildren, Heather Verret (Matt) of Clinton, Dr. Will Jones (Katie) of Brandon, Beth Gatewood (Timothy) of Kansas City, Mo., Christopher Moore of Jackson, and Kelly Johnson (Nick) of Madison; and three great grandchildren, with one on the way. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 PM Monday, January 21, 2019 at Sebrell Funeral Home with a graveside service to follow at 1:00 p.m. at Lakewood Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Lottie Moon Offering for Foreign Missions at Colonial Heights Baptist Church, 444 Northpark Drive, Ridgeland, MS, 39157 or to the charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the Arbor Nursing Home doctors, nurses and staff for their attention and care during the final days of our father’s life.
