Obituary for Dorothy Stephenson Boone
Dorothy Stephenson Boone went home to be with the Lord on July 2, 2018. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 6, 2018 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 5301 Old Canton Rd., Jackson, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary, the Reverend Earl Adams, officiating. Interment will follow in Parkway Cemetery in Madison. Dorothy was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on October 21, 1918 to Mary Alice and Doug Stephenson. She was a graduate of Byrd High School and Centenary College where she met and married James Allen Boone. They lived in Shreveport, LA; Jackson, MS; Metairie and New Orleans, LA; London, England; and retired in Jackson. Among her many activities were St. Charles Presbyterian Church Senior High Advisor, Friends of the Cabildo, Chi Omega Sorority, Mississippi Governor’s Mansion docent, and a 25-year member of Explorers Bible Study. Dorothy will be remembered as the epitome of a charming, kind, compassionate Southern lady. Her greatest legacy was her selfless nature. She was always doing things for her family, friends, and those in need and she richly blessed all who knew her. She loved the Lord, her husband, her children, and her greatest joy – her nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. There is no better description of her than Proverbs 31 which reads: “Her children arise and call her blessed. A woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Let her works bring her praise at the gate.” Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, James Allen Boone; her brothers, Douglas H. Stephenson and James H. Stephenson. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Boone Seale (Bill), of Madison; sons, James Allen Boone, Jr. (Cindy), of Memphis and Douglas Stephenson Boone (Allyn), of Hattiesburg; grandchildren: Mark Seale (Jessica), of Brandon; Scott Seale (Lauren), of Watkinsville, GA; Brian Boone (Alisha), David Boone and Brent Gaia, all of Memphis; Neal Boone and Andrew Day (Elizabeth), both of Franklin, TN; Wilson Boone (Jenny Lind), of Hattiesburg; and Dorothy Holland (Travis), of Nashville; and eleven great grandchildren. Her grandchildren will serve as Pallbearers. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Siena Center at St. Catherine’s Village for taking such wonderful care of our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to a favorite charity.
