Obituary for Doris Speed Downing
Doris Speed Mobarak Downing died Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at her home in Pearl, MS. She was 79. Mrs. Downing was born in Jackson, MS to the late Grover C. and Christine P. Speed, Jr. She had been a resident of Pearl, MS since 1993.
She was a graduate of Mississippi State in 1967 with a BS in Medical Technology. She worked most of her career at the VA Hospital in Jackson, MS. She was a member of Alta Woods United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Downing is survived by her sisters, Dot Speed Meek (Mickey) of Brandon, MS and Mary Speed Burrow of Vicksburg, MS.; two stepdaughters, Ruth Ellen Downing Lagos (Alexander) of Allen, TX and Andrea Laird (Rush) of Meridian, MS, and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Dr. Mohammed A. Mobarak and James Neil Downing.
Visitation will be at 11:30 AM Thursday, May 12, 2022, at Alta Woods United Methodist Church with services following immediately at 12:00 Noon at the church, with Rev. Eddie C. Spencer officiating. Interment will follow at Natchez City Cemetery in Natchez, MS.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alta Woods United Methodist Church, 109 Alta Woods Blvd, Jackson, MS 39204
