Obituary for Dora Gail Robertson
Dora Gail Robertson was born November 12, 1946 in Humphreys county, Mississippi to Luther W. and Parilee C. Barnett Robertson. She died February 2, 2020 in Jackson Mississippi. Dora Gail graduated salutatorian from Louise High School in 1964 and went to work for Bellsouth Telephone as a directory assistance operator and kept that golden telephone voice until ALS stole her ability to speak a few months ago. She was close with most of her family for most of her life and was a valued family historian, able to date and name everyone and everything within recent history. An avid reader of everything, she excelled at all she attempted and loved outdoors, flowers, yardwork, gardening, fishing, animals, and travel. She lived most of her life in Mississippi but also spent time in Georgia and North Dakota. She and her family moved to Sturgis, South Dakota, in 1988 and there her 12 year old son was killed. After her son died, she returned to Mississippi and attended Millsaps college in Jackson and received her bachelor's degree in sociology. The following years and to her retirement, she worked at Milsaps as faculty secretary. She retired in January 2017. Dora Gail was preceded in death by our mother, Parilee C Barnett Robertson Boyd in 1982; her father in 1988, her only son, Jonathan Eugene Robertson in 1988, her only niece Jacqueline Michelle Joyner in 1990. She is also survived by nephews Allen and Paul Joyner and their father Jack; and Daniel and Amanda, Stephen, David, Ben, and Brian Robertson; plus 2 great nieces, 3 great nephews, 1 great great nephew and many cousins and friends.
