GRIEF & HEALING
affirmations to uplift & help you through
each stage of the grieving process.
Donald “Don” Robert Donovan, Jr., 68 years old, loving husband to Nema Donovan passed away January 22, 2018. Don was a great father to Shane and Seth Donovan (Julie), and doting grandfather to Corban 13, Grant 5, Adam 3, and Brooklyn 8 months. Don was the son of the late Donald Robert Donovan, Sr. and Doris Donovan, and he was preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy Dempsey. He is survived by his sister, Kathy Martin, his brother, Paul Donovan, several nieces and nephews, as well as his wife and two sons. Don will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
After being born in Syracuse, New York on October 21, 1949, Don grew up in Tucson, Arizona, and he graduated from Rincon High School. He met his wife, Nema Shaver Donovan, in Tucson where they married April 24, 1977. At the time he worked for Asplundh Tree Service, and soon the family was transferred to New Orleans, Louisiana; Ocean Springs, Mississippi; and Panama City, Florida; before settling in Jackson, Mississippi. Don was later employed by Entergy MS, and he worked for them for fifteen years. He was greatly admired for his work accomplishments and strong work ethic.
Don’s heart for people and ministry was evident as he and Nema served side by side as active members at First Baptist Church Jackson, Mississippi. Don not only served as a deacon, but both he and Nema were active members of the FBCJ Choir and for the past 16 years, participated in the annual “Carols by Candlelight”. As a team he and Nema demonstrated their testimony for a Christ-centered marriage based on God’s word. He loved and cherished his Nema. She was always his first priority. Don was a true friend, a good brother, and a loving father who was well-liked by those who he encountered.
If you were blessed to know Don, then you would have witnessed his quiet demeanor and subtle wit. Don was a man of high moral standards and Godly integrity. He fulfilled his calling with excellence, waiting patiently for recognition. He was skilled in so many practical ways, such as vehicle maintenance, home repair, and craftsmanship. If he did not know the exact procedure for a repair or project, he would study and research until it was completed with skill and precision. Somewhat of a self-taught and very artistic man, he started doing wood work to improve and decorate his home.
The family welcomes you to celebrate with them the home going of Don. We are blessed in the assurance that Don is even now seeing our Savior face to face. Thank you for your prayers and the outpouring of love and support during Don’s valiant battle against a very aggressive foe. You are loved and truly appreciated! In the end and through it all, may God receive the glory!
If you wish to make a donation in lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made in memory of Donald Donovan to the First Baptist Church Jackson Sanctuary Choir.
