Obituary for Donald Paul Jackson
Donald Paul Jackson, 91, died peacefully with his daughters beside him on July 5, 2017. He was born October 15, 1925 in Mt. Ida, Arkansas and lived there until he was ten years old, when his family moved to Aztec, New Mexico. After graduating high school he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1943 to 1946, primarily in the India-Burma-Chinese theatre of operations. He kept a life-long love of flying and flew his own plane for several years. Some of his favorite stories to tell involved flying and how “the good Lord saved his life at least four times.” Don found employment in Memphis in appliance sales and service, then transferred to Jackson, Mississippi in 1952 to work, where he met and married Josiedene Rosamond in 1953. They soon opened their own business, Jackson Service Co., which operated for fifty-three years, though he continued to make service calls on his loyal customers well into his seventies. Don and Jo loved and supported the Arkansas Razorback football team. They not only bought season tickets, but often traveled to away games to “call the Hogs.” Don also enjoyed golf, poker, and dominoes, especially with his brothers. He continued playing golf until he was almost ninety. He is preceded in death by his wife Josiedene in 2015; by his sister Virginia Hulsey, and by his brothers George Jackson of Santa Rosa, CA and John Jackson of Woodstock, VA. Survivors include Donna Jo Marcum (Dale) of Canton, MS and Paula Dene Saxton (Lawrence) of Edwards, MS; grandson Daniel Jackson Marcum of Austin, TX; 5 step grandchildren and 6 step great grandchildren; two brothers Bob Jackson (Wilma) of Mountain Home, Arkansas and Gene Jackson of Madison, MS, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Don was outgoing, friendly, and never met a stranger. He will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to Veterans of Foreign Wars. Visitation will be at Sebrell Funeral Home Tuesday, July 18 at 10 a.m. with memorial service to follow at 11 a.m.
