Obituary for Dona Dockery Grider
Dona Dockery Grider, 76, died Saturday, December 2, 2017, at Hospice Ministries. A Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 9, 2017, at St. James’ Episcopal Church with visitation beginning at 12:00 p.m. Saturday in the Guild Parlor at St. James’ Episcopal Church.
Dona was born on August 2, 1941, in Jackson to Donald and Stella Dockery. A longtime resident of Jackson, she was raised in Byram. A graduate of Byram High School, she continued her education at Mississippi College for Women where she earned her Bachelor of Science in elementary education. After graduation, Dona accepted a position teaching in the Florida Public School System in Cocoa Beach. While teaching in Florida, Dona met Robert C. (Bob) Grider, III. She returned to Jackson, and they were married on December 27, 1966. She continued teaching for several years, and was a beloved substitute teacher at Jackson Academy. Dona was a faithful communicant of St. James’ Episcopal Church where she enjoyed attending her Sunday school class. She loved sports and cherished watching her grandchildren participate in all their activities. Survivors include: son, Robert C. Grider, IV, of Busan, South Korea; daughter, Dendy Grider Magee and her husband, Richard M. Magee of Jackson; grandchildren, Davis Marshall Magee, and Elizabeth Anne Magee of Jackson; sister Kay Dockery Long and her husband C.D. (Buddy) Long, Jr. of Cleveland and brother, Billy Calhoun Dockery and his wife Barbara Goss Dockery o of Madison along with several nieces and nephews and numerous dear friends.
