Obituary for Dixie Ann Childress Kilgore
Dixie Ann Childress Kilgore passed away peacefully at her residence in Ridgeland, MS early Tuesday morning, January 11, 2021. Dixie was born April 25, 1928 to the late John Albert and Mary Ethel Hall Childress in Kilmichael, MS. Her passion in life was sharing Jesus with others, gardening and tending her flowers. Mama passed away into the arms of Jesus claiming her eternal reward. We, her family, are grieving her loss but our grief is rooted in sorrow, not hopelessness. Mama had full confidence in the Lord’s promise and the finished work of Christ on the Cross. She has joined our Daddy, her parents and many other family members and lifelong friends. She was the best Mama and Grandma we could ask for and far better than we deserved. She poured herself into the life of others and often provided care for family and friends in time of their need. She was a caregiver in the truest sense and found joy in sacrificing for those she loved. Tears are flowing for Mama as we grieve a life well lived. She fought so hard to stay with us but after a week of Covid, was more than her 93 year old body could handle. We will miss her dearly. We love you, too, doll. Thanks to all for your love and support through this difficult time.
Dixie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 45 years, Lewis Clarence Kilgore, Jr., all her brothers and sisters and her son, Daniel Ray Clark.
She is survived by her oldest daughter, Dixie Carol McCarty (Toby McCarty), Mary Diana Barbee (Jim Barbee), John Steven Clark (Crissy Clark) and step-son Lewis Gerald Kilgore. Her grandchildren, Laura Lindsey Cox, Brandy Clark, Michael Barbee, Brad Barbee and Alyssa Price. She had four great grand children, Colton Cox, Michael Smith, II, Violet Barbee and Kenzlee Price.
