Obituary for Diana Alba Potesky
Diana Alba Potesky
Diana, 56, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 18, after a yearlong battle with colon cancer.
Born in New York City, Diana became an accomplished oil painter at an early age. She was accepted into the prestigious Music and Art High School and medaled in several competitions. Diana’s love of painting was a life-long passion, and her work was regularly exhibited and sold wherever she lived.
Diana was also a dedicated student of yoga for many years, and had just started to teach others before her illness. She took delight in crafts, interior design, playing bridge and especially gardening, which she focused on with tireless energy.
Her greatest love was family. She was a devoted mother to her two sons, Max and Sam, and a loving wife to her husband, Bob. The family lived in the New York area, moving to Chicago and most recently Mississippi. In each place, Diana made important and lasting friendships that enriched her life and those around her.
Since her diagnosis, Diana inspired others with her courage. Through sheer strength and determination, she rallied to attend the wedding of Sam to Renee Stoehr.in New Orleans last March, and left the hospital to join her family’s annual reunion in Cape Cod, Massachusetts in July. Most recently, she was thrilled to learn that Sam and Renee are expecting their first child in the spring.
Diana will be missed by her many friends and extended family including her stepfather, four sisters, nieces, nephews and many cousins. She asked to express special gratitude to Nichole Baker at Studio Om for the chance to practice and teach yoga in Jackson and to Bob Tompkins for his kind and generous support as art teacher, mentor and friend. Also to the medical staff at UMMC for the quality and generosity of their care.
Plans will be announced soon for a gathering of friends and family in the Jackson area. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Diana’s name to: Community Animal Rescue and Adoption, at carams.org.
