Obituary for David Emory "Dave" Dodd
David Emory Dodd, known to his family and friends as “Dave”, was born 29 years ago on November 15, 1991, to Charles David and Tammie Wages Dodd in Tupelo, Mississippi. He passed away peacefully in his home on May 31, 2021, in Jackson, Mississippi.
Although he could make high marks and obtain any qualifications he wanted, Dave absorbed a true higher education through his lived experiences in the real world. With the gift of growing up in the age of the internet, Dave was unstoppable when deciding to do something because of his thirst for knowledge. Often quiet and pensive, Dave loved to share his knowledge and empower those around him with information. Although at times he may have seemed shy, Dave had no issue meeting and making friends from all walks of life. His compassion and love for those around him has deeply impacted the communities he had the privilege of being involved in. A gentle soul with a hunger for freedom, Dave traveled on many occasions to explore many corners of the world and to expand his own horizons with his beloved friends and “Sis”. This afforded him the pleasure of making connections all over the country.
Dave is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Charles Dodd, Jr. and Jessie Mae Dodd, and his maternal grandparents Emery Woodrow Wages and Shirley Criddle Wages.
He is survived by his parents, his sister Mary Beth Dodd (lovingly known as “Sis”), his brother Derek Dodd, his sister Tonya Dodd Waits, and numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins.
A graveside service for friends and relatives will be held Friday, June 4, 2021 at 2 P.M. at Jessamine Cemetery in Ridgeland, MS (170 Trace Ridge Dr, Ridgeland, MS 39157). Chuck Odom will officiate the service. A celebration of Dave’s life will be hosted at Mary Beth’s home for extended family and friends immediately after the service. Instead of traditional black attire, the family has asked that those attending his service and/or celebration of life wear tie-dye or colorful attire to reflect and to honor Dave's vibrant soul.
Pallbearers will be Mary Beth Dodd, Derek Dodd, Mitch Hall, Ben Stricklin, Taylor Walker, Wilson Harper, Adam Chandler, and Sean Cummins.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children in memory of Reeves Belk, a close childhood friend of Dave.
