Obituary for David Cowden
David P. Cowden Madison
David P. Cowden passed away at 8:05 p.m. Sunday, January 29, 2017 at home. A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 3, 2017 at Madison United Methodist Church with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Mr. Cowden was born in Birmingham, Alabama; to R. Paul Cowden and Cecille Lamb Cowden on September 22, 1936.
His early education was in Birmingham, Alabama; he finished high school and college in Missouri. In 1958 he moved to Atlanta, Georgia where he met Betsy Rowley, they were married in 1960.
He served in the United States Marine Corps. He had hobbies that included flying, fishing, hunting, and boating. In later years he was an avid golfer. He was a mason, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a Shriner.
Mr. Cowden worked for Fruehauf Trailer Corp. for thirty eight years in sales and management his entire career that took him to live in several locations, including Tennessee, Mississippi, Texas, South Carolina and Iowa. Retiring in Birmingham, Alabama in 2000, he soon moved to Madison, Mississippi in 2001.
He is preceded in death by parents Paul and Cecil Cowden. He is survived his wife of 57 years and two children, Carole Cowden Graham of Madison, MS and David Christopher "Chris" Cowden and wife Sandra Jean (Sandy) of Spring, TX. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Katelyn and Kyle Cowden of Spring, TX.
