Obituary for David Alan Brewer
David Alan Brewer, 68, of Jackson, passed away on May 27, 2021 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. He was one day shy of his 69th birthday. Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at Broadmoor Baptist Church, 1531 Highland Colony Parkway, Madison, MS from 9:00-10:00 with the funeral following at 10:00 The burial will be held at the Old Crystal Springs cemetery where he will be laid to rest beside his father and mother.
David was born on May 28, 1952, in Dallas, TX, to Earl and Jeanette Brewer. He graduated from Callaway High School in 1970 with the closest graduating class ever. The family appreciates all of the support and prayers from this very close group of friends. He furthered his education at Hinds Junior College earning an Associates of Arts Degree while playing football on scholarship. David then attended the University of Mississippi to earn a Bachelor of Public Administration; Major in Criminal Justice and Minor in Sociology. David completed basic training and certification as a police officer at MS Law Enforcement Training Academy. After 24 years of service as a Master Police Officer and Internal Affairs Investigator, he retired. From 2001-2003 he was employed by AT&T Wireless/Telecorp PCS. Inc. as a Fraud and Security Investigator. From 2003-2013 he worked with the U.S. Courts Office of Federal Public Defender as Senior Staff Investigator for the Southern District. His last assignment before retiring to the Farm was with Corrections Corporation of America as the Executive Assistant to the Warden at the Adams County Correctional Center in Natchez. This is the position that took him to Natchez and his farm where he truly enjoyed retirement with his beloved dog, Sugar. Sugar has found her forever home with a dear friend.
Throughout his career, deep friendships were made among this brotherhood of law enforcement men and women. David’s family is forever grateful for each one that reached out to David during these last 4 months. Their memories of David brought a whole new perspective of who he was. One friend wrote that he wished all police officers had David’s temperament and strength of mind and body. Another described him as a caring, level minded, good cop. He was well loved by many.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Earl & Jeanette Brewer of Jackson. Survivors include his children, West Brewer and Rachael Burge (Rayne) both of Brandon, brother, Randy Brewer (Sally) of Jackson, sister, Gloria Frazier (Dale) of Flowood and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank each and every person at Hospice for the loving and caring way they took care of David and the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider memorial contributions be made to The Mustard Seed in Brandon where David’s niece lives. The address is 1085 Luckney Road, Brandon, 39047.
