Obituary for Daniel Francis Tueth
Daniel F. Tueth, loving husband and father, 79, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday April 15, 2017, at the VA Medical Center in Jackson, MS. He was surrounded by his beloved daughters Colleen, Mary Ann, Kathy and son-in-law Randy.
Daniel was born and raised in St. Louis, Mo and continued to be a life-long Cardinals fan. At the young age of 17, Daniel decided that he wanted to serve his country and started what would be 22 years of distinguished service in the Navy. During his career, he served in Washington, DC as a White House photographer during John F. Kennedy’s administration documenting his term up to his assassination and funeral. He served 3 tours in Vietnam as a member of the combat camera group, Pacific Fleet. He often told his family that he went to war armed with a camera instead of a gun. He subsequently earned a promotion to Warrant Officer and retired to the Fleet Reserve in Pensacola, FL.
Between tours in Vietnam, the Navy sent Daniel to the University of Southern California (USC) Motion Picture Film School where he worked on a film project with then unknown director and fellow student, George Lucas. Daniel produced the sound and acted in THX1138 which George Lucas used to submit to studios for ultimate production and the launching of his career as a director.
After retirement from the Navy, Daniel took a job with School Pictures and moved to Ridgeland, MS where he started his own photographer/videographer/cinematographer business donating much of his time and talents to his beloved church of 35 years, St. Richard’s Catholic Church, where he also served as a Eucharistic Minister and brother in the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, Mary Alice Tueth of Ridgeland, MS; daughters, Colleen Tueth of Nashville, TN, Mary Ann (Larry) Rouse of Jacksonville, FL, Kathy (Randy) Rich of Pensacola, FL and Aleace (Bob) Dillon of Houston, TX; brother, Father Michael Tueth S.J. of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren, Daniel and Ashley Rouse, Shandy, Patrick and Ben Rich, Leah Endrody and Adam Dillon, niece and nephews Bea, Joe, Marty, and Daniel Stout.
Daniel was preceded in death by his son Timothy Michael Tueth, sister Mary Bea Stout and parents Frank, Beatrice, and Ann Tueth.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Richard Catholic Church, Jackson, MS on Wednesday, April 19th, 2017 with visitation at 10:00am and funeral mass beginning at 11:00am. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of the VA Medical Center Hospice. The loving and dignified care delivered by this team extended not only to Daniel but to the family as well. We cannot imagine him receiving better care anywhere else.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association, Alzheimer’s Mississippi, 855 S. Pear Orchard Road, Suite 501, Ridgeland, MS 39157 in Dan’s memory.
