Obituary for Claudine Matthews
Claudine Matthews passed away on November 11, 2020 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, Mississippi. She was 96.
A native of Sallis, Mississippi and born September 21, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Edgar James Boyett and the late Hattie Burrell Boyett. Her family moved to Goodman later where she attended high school and Holmes Junior College. After graduating, Claudine moved to Jackson to work for Trustmark Bank. During that time, she met and married James Horton (Jim) Matthews. They made Northeast Jackson their home and raised two children.
Claudine was a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She was quite entertaining, in her later years especially, and loved being around people. She had a special love for her grandchildren which included their friends, who all affectionately referred to her as Mamaw. She was devoted to her family and her many friends of all ages.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Horton Matthews; son, James B. Matthews; brother, James Hewitt Boyette; and sisters, Ouida Pitre and Edna Bowling.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Matthews Dinkins (Ted); grandchildren, Barton Dinkins, Rimes Dinkins, Cameron Dinkins, and Lauren Matthews; and a host of other relatives including very special nieces, Phyllis Keveryn, Jackie Kocke, Sharon Gault, Nancy Bowling Parker, and Linda Bowling and nephews, Kenny Boyette and Joe Boyette.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at Hillcrest Cemetery (Browning-Hillcrest) in Goodman.
