Obituary for Christine Bourgeois Yates
Christine Bourgeois Yates of Jackson passed away Monday, July 4, 2022, peacefully at her home. Her funeral service will be Friday, July 8, 2022, at 11:30 am, preceded by visitation at 10:30 am, both at Saint Stephens Church in Flowood, Mississippi. The family will have a private burial.
Chris was born January 25, 1934, to Ernestine and Ernest Bourgeois. She attended Central High School in Jackson before attending the University of Alabama where she was a member of Chi Omega. She met and married Gene Allan Yates on June 3, 1955, recently celebrating sixty-seven years of marriage.
She had many interests but of paramount importance to her were people. An unmistakable “Southern Belle,” her loving friends and family held the highest value for her. Preceding her in death were her sister and brother-in-law Adrienne and Mackey Boone (Jackson, MS), and her brother-in-law Harvey Henderson (Sumner, MS). Chris was survived by her husband Gene A. Yates, her son Gene A. Yates, Jr. (Kendall) and their children Gene A. Yates III, Ellie Yates Stacy (Cole), and Amanda Turner Yates. Also surviving her is her daughter Adrienne Yates Howie (John) and their children John Sharp Howie III, Christopher Harris Howie, and Brooks Alexander Howie. She is also survived by her sister Margaret Henderson (Sumner, MS). Chris wanted to thank her loving friends for their abundant grace during her eighty-eight years of life and especially for their thoughtfulness and prayers in the end.
