Obituary for Charlotte Ann Boyd
Charlotte Ann Boyd, 77, of Morton, MS, died unexpectedly on September 22, 2021.
Charlotte was a loving mom and grandmother who devoted her life to her children, second only to serving God and the church. She would do anything for anyone and loved to help. She will be greatly missed and remembered for her warm smile and open arms, as someone who never met a stranger and loved fellowship with family and friends.
Charlotte was born on February 1, 1944, in Kendallville, Indiana. The daughter of Harold James Young and Evelyn (McGuire) Young, Charlotte was the eldest of three girls.
When she was two years old, the family moved to Albion, Indiana, where Charlotte spent most of her life and graduated from Albion-Jefferson High School in 1962. After high school, she attended Bob Jones University, Ball State, and the University of Alaska, where she completed her Bachelor's degree. She went on to earn her Master's degree from Purdue University and was a dissertation away from a Ph.D. in Home Economics.
An educator at heart, Charlotte began her career as a teacher in Ohio, instructing at a vocational school and running a hotel with students from the school. When she moved to Mississippi in 1980, she continued teaching vocational courses and Home Economics at Piney Woods Country Life School before taking a position in Jackson Public Schools, first at Powell Middle School and then Jim Hill High School. She influenced the school district's transition from the traditional Home Economics program to the Family Dynamics program before retiring in 2009.
Charlotte was an avid reader. Her sister Karen remembers their trips to the cabin in Wisconsin where Charlotte would go to the library the week before to "stock up" on books so she could avoid fishing as fishing was never her thing.
Louise, her other sister, affectionately remembers her as a Master Chef in the kitchen, being able to whip up some of the most scrumptious meals. Charlotte loved to bake, and everyone loved her baking. It's no wonder she requested to be cremated, as it will be her final bake.
Charlotte loved music. She began playing the piano and clarinet at a young age. She recently taught herself how to play the dulcimer, honing her skills to convert hymnal songs to be played by the dulcimer.
Throughout her life, Charlotte was always crafting. She mastered crocheting and often made baby blankets for many expecting mothers via friends and charity through her church.
Charlotte loved her church family and was actively involved at New Liberty Baptist Church. Whether teaching a Bible study or sharing her words of wisdom with all, Charlotte loved the Lord and lived her life for Him. When she wasn't reading her Bible, she enjoyed gardening. She often could be found potting new plants and sharing them with others. She loved being on her porch to watch the birds and especially feeding her hummingbirds every season.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, father Harold James Young and mother Evelyn McGuire Young. Charlotte is survived by her two sisters, Karen (Steve) Selby and Louise Davis; her three children – Benjamin Luke Boyd and his wife Denise, Sarah Esther Boyd, and Daniel Nathan Boyd and his wife Carolyn. She's also survived by her five grandchildren – Caitlyn, Payton, Will, Nathan, and Lilly (who she affectionately called "Little Miss") – whom she loved deeply and was actively involved in their everyday lives (and they certainly will miss her Yankee Cookies).
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at New Liberty Baptist Church in Morton, MS. A visitation for friends and family will be at 10:00 am before the memorial service to follow at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the Center of Hope Pregnancy Resource Center at P.O. Box 183, Forest MS, 39074.
