Obituary for Charles William Rutledge, Jr.
Charles William Rutledge, Jr., passed away peacefully on September 2, 2021, after a battle with colon cancer.
Bill was born on August 24, 1952, in Lexington, Mississippi, to Charles William Rutledge Sr., and Loretta Monthie Rutledge. He was a graduate of Lexington High School, Holmes Junior College, and Mississippi State University.
He began his career in public accounting in Memphis,Tennessee. During his career, Bill worked in Honolulu, Hawaii; Houston, Texas; and Washington, D.C. In his church community, he was particularly devoted to youth and senior ministries. Bill was an avid sports fan and enjoyed supporting the teams’ in the cities where he lived, including attending two Super Bowls with his beloved Washington Football Team. Among Bill’s favorites were his family, good conversation, Starbucks coffee, Napa Valley, Blue Bell ice cream, and his pipe.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Loretta Rutledge Hathcock. He is survived by his wife Mary Beth Williams Rutledge; daughters Miriam Rutledge Dillow (Scott) and Rebekah Ann Rutledge; grandchildren Caleigh Elizabeth, Ashleigh Scott, William Travis, Ainsleigh Paige, and Molleigh Grace Dillow; brother Samuel Lee Rutledge (Sara Beth), sisters Elizabeth Ann Rutledge and Lynn Rutledge Edwards (Billy); sister-in-law Patty Ann Williams Davis (Steve), aunt Sue Evelyn Williams; and a number of nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
The family is especially grateful to the staff at Manhattan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jackson, Mississippi, for their loving care and kindness.
A private burial will be held for the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorial donations be made to The American Cancer Society, First Baptist Church of Alexandria, Virginia, or First Baptist Church of Lexington, Mississippi.
