Charles Robert Dickens, 82, died Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at Select Specialty at Baptist Medical Center. A memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 22, 2022, at Briarwood United Methodist Church. Visitation will begin at 11:30 a. m. Saturday at the church.
Mr. Dickens was born on August 12, 1940, in Natchez, the son of the late Charles Henry Dickens and Hattie Williams Dickens. A 1958 graduate of Natchez High School, he served his country joining the US Navy and served on the USS Intrepid. After receiving his honorable discharge, he attended Hinds Community College with his sister, Honey, and graduated in 1966 from the University of Southern Mississippi. At USM, Mr. Dickens was a member of Kappa Sigma and served as the District Grandmaster for 25 years.
He was a member of Briarwood United Methodist Church.
In mid 1980, Mr. Dickens and his partner, Artis Williams began C A T trucking, eventually retiring in 2012. He loved attending USM games, collecting coins and John Wayne Movies. Most of all, he cherished spending time with his family.
Along with his parents, Charles Henry Dickens and Hattie Williams Dickens is preceded in death by a sister, Frances Jane “Honey” Dickens.
Married in December of 1966, he is survived by his wife of 55 years, Diane Martin Dickens of Jackson; son, Chad Dickens of Pensacola, FL; son, Roger Dickens and his wife Rachel of Longmont, CO; nephew, Keith Massey of Natchez and great nephew, Zachary Massey.
