Obituary for Charles H. "Charley" Windham, Jr.
Charles Hulon (Charley) Windham, Jr., 87, died peacefully Sunday, October 7, 2019. Charley was a native of Mize, Mississippi, and the son of C. Hulon Windham, Sr. and Ruby M. Windham. He attended Millsaps College and the University of Mississippi and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from the University of Southern Mississippi. He later graduated from the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas, Texas. He was a retired Vice President and Fund Manager at Trustmark National Bank, serving there for 35 years. Charley was especially proud to have been the manager of the first stock mutual fund based in Mississippi. The fund had been ranked as one of the top funds in the country several times by various national rating entities. Charley was active in many cultural and social activities in his community, including serving as a past member of the Board of Trustees of Laurel Speech, Language and Hearing Center; a past member of the Board of Trustees of Southern Trust School; a past member of the Board of Directors of The Hundred Club of Jones County; a past President of the Laurel Rotary Club (a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow); a past member of the Mississippi Society of Financial Analysts; past Chairman of the Trust Division of the Mississippi Bankers Association; a member of the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art Advisory Council; the Laurel Country Club; and the Laurel Little Theatre. Charley attended First-Trinity Presbyterian Church in Laurel. Since his retirement, he continued to maintain his office at Trustmark National Bank and worked for a family trust. He also continued his participation and interest in his two hobbies, tennis and his two grandsons. Charley’s survivors are his wife, Elizabeth (Bunny) Bissell Rogers Windham; his daughter Elizabeth Murray Windham, Laurel; his daughter Melissa Windham Hutchison (and her husband Robert Hutchison), Jackson; his two grandsons, Charley Hutchison (a freshman at Harvard University in Cambridge, MA) and Forrest Hutchison (a sophomore at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School), both of Jackson; his brothers, Dr. M. Ray Windham, Palm Desert, California, and Jimmy Dale Windham, Jackson; and several nieces. Visitation will be at First-Trinity Presbyterian Church in Laurel at 3:00pm on Thursday, October 18 with the service following at 4:00pm. After the service, friends and family are invited to a reception celebrating Charley’s life at the Rogers-Green House, 566 N. Fifth Avenue in Laurel.
