Obituary for Charles "Chuck" Runyan III
Charles Pinckney “Chuck” Runyan III, 65, passed away at his Clinton, MS, residence Sunday, August 18, 2019. Chuck was born March 31, 1954, to the late Charles Pinckney Runyan, Jr. and Beverly Runyan Bardi in Charleston, SC. He grew up in Marietta, GA, and graduated from Sprayberry High School in 1973. He retired from the U.S. Navy after twenty years of service and most recently was a biomedical photographer working for the University of Mississippi Medical Center. An active member of the Episcopal Church of the Creator in Clinton, Chuck served on the vestry as Sr. Warden and most recently, as Jr. Warden. He also served as a lay reader, a chalice bearer, and a member of the choir. Chuck was active in the Boy Scouts of America. He earned numerous awards including the Order of the Arrow Vigil Honor, served as Scoutmaster of Troop 88 and later, Troop 345, and was a Unit Commissioner. While Scoutmaster of Troop 88, his son, Alex, earned his Eagle Scout award. Chuck enjoyed riding motorcycles and was a member of the Patriot Guard Riders. Chuck was also a member of Kiwanis International and served as a staff member of the Clinton YMCA. He was involved in many productions with the Mississippi Opera Chorus and appeared with his daughter, Sarah, in MOC’s production of “Madame Butterfly.” Recently, he was cast in the Hollywood movie, “Same Kind of Different as Me.” Chuck was exceptionally talented, but most of all, he was very involved with his family and his children. Chuck was a beloved husband, wonderful father, great brother, and loyal friend who will be greatly missed. Chuck is preceded in death by his father; and his stepfather, Bruno Bardi. He is survived by his mother, Beverly Bardi of Phoenix, AZ; his wife of 31 years, Deborah Runyan of Clinton, MS; his son, Alex Runyan of Clinton, MS; his daughter, Sarah Runyan of Santa Fe, NM; his brother, Alex Bardi (Susan) of Norcross, GA; his sisters, Iris Hale (Teri) of Atlanta, GA, Terri Shafer (Greg) of Mesa, AZ, and Cindi Dreisbach of Huntsville, AL; his brother-in-law, Brian Dempster of Williamstown, WV; and nieces and nephews. Services will be held Saturday, August 24, 2019, at the Episcopal Church of the Creator. Visitation starts at 9:30 a.m. with the Memorial Mass following at 11 a.m. The Reverend Robert M. Blanton will be the Officiant. In lieu of flowers, the Runyan family requests that memorials be made to the Episcopal Church of the Creator, 1445 Clinton Raymond Road, Clinton, MS 39056, or the Boy Scouts of America, 855 Riverside Drive, Jackson, MS 39202
