Obituary for Carvill Smith-Vaniz Cox
Carvill Smith-Vaniz Cox died at Hospice Ministries Friday, June 2, 2107. A memorial service will be held at Chapel of the Cross on Tuesday, June 6, at 11:00 AM with visitation one hour prior to the service. Her ashes will be combined with those of her husband, and interment will be in the Canton Cemetery on what would have been their 61st wedding anniversary.
Carvill was born January 16, 1933, in Canton, Mississippi to the late Mary Frances and Herbert George Smith-Vaniz. After graduation from Delta State University, she moved to Biloxi, where she was employed by MP&L. There she met her husband, Arno Everett Cox. As the wife of an Air Force Sergeant, she lived all over the world.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Georgia Smith-Vaniz and Sarabeth Boehm; her nephew Richard McDaniel; and her great-nephew, Stuart Smith.
Carvill is survived by her son, Alan Cox and wife Joyce; her daughter Julie Smith and husband Thomas; her grandchildren Josh Cox, Jessica Cox and son Liam, Jacob, wife Kayla and son Emmett; her sisters Ellen McGee, Frances Steitz and husband Jack, and Carolyn Smith and husband Shelby; and numerous nieces and nephews, whom she dearly loved.
The family requests that memorials be made to Chapel of the Cross, 674 Mannsdale Road, Madison, Ms 39110; Hospice Ministries, 450 Towne Center Blvd, Ridgeland, MS 39157; or Canton Nursing Home, 1331 E. Peace St., Canton, MS 39046.
