Obituary for Carl Gustav (Gus) Evers
Carl Gustav (Gus) Evers, 49, died Tuesday, September 6, 2016, in Jackson. Gus was born August 23, 1967, to the late, Dr. Carl Gustav of Lake Benton, MN., and Jan Magee Evers of Tylertown, MS. He lived in Jackson all his life graduating from Murrah High School and a participant in the APAC program. He attended the University of Mississippi and was an active member of Chi Psi fraternity. He graduated from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale in Florida with a degree in visual communications. Prior to graduation he received the Governor’s Visual Communications Award. At the time of his death he was employed by the University of Mississippi Medical Center GI Department. “We are so sorry to hear about the news this morning. My deepest condolence to your family. Everyone in our GI lab loved Gus and he will be missed by all of us. He loved to draw cartoons in the GI lab. The last two pictures he drew will print one out, frame and hang it in the GI lab”, said Dr. Shou Jiang Tang. “He was a special guy who brought a lot of humor to our lab and uplifted us and he will be missed”, said Jim Sones, M.D., Chief, Division Digestive Diseases.Gus was original. He was witty and creative. For years he helped design and construct winning floats for the Hal’s St. Paddy’s Day parade. At the same time he designed and wore costumes both brilliant in creativity and color. He was an original member of the Shamrock Gator Society, now known as the Rude Men. He enjoyed playing in many local soccer leagues. Gus was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Carl Gustav Evers, infant nephew Charles Nelson Crump, cousin, Donnie Evers and uncle, Ewald Evers. He is survived by his mother, Jan Magee Evers; sister, Karen Evers (Bryan Robertson); his sister, Julie Crump and nephew, Charles Jackson Crump; aunt, Katy Magee Johnson (Bill) cousins, Tiffany Nation Moreira and her children, Christian, Noah and Addison Hughes; cousins, Summerlyn Nation and her children, Ella, Phoebe and Jack Coulter; cousins, Laura Magee, Sandra Kiekel (Bill); aunt, Alice Kern; uncles, Donnie Evers (Diane), Norman Evers (Diana); and cousins, Brian Evers, Heather Cwach, Colin Evers and Chad Evers.Visitation will be at noon on Friday with funeral service to follow at 2pm at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, 5400 Old Canton Road, Jackson, MS 39211.
