Obituary for Calvin J. Michel, Jr.
Calvin Joachim Michel, Jr. of Ridgeland, MS passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2020 in his home. Calvin was 62 years old. He was born in Jackson, MS on September 20, 1957. Calvin grew up in St. Richard Catholic Church Parish and was a graduate of St. Joseph Catholic High School, Class of 1975. He attended the University of Mississippi and was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Calvin spent most of his life working in the retail industry. He managed the family business, Frances Pepper, Inc. and went on to work for Barney’s in Dallas, TX. He furthered his interior design career by working with Glo Design Studio and then alongside Lesley Tatum with Historically Modern Interiors. Calvin had an undeniable sense of style and eye for design. He was a very unique and left his mark on all that he met. Calvin was a long-time member of the Jackson recovery community and was always willing to share his experience, strength and hope with others. He is preceded in death by his parents, Calvin J. Michel, Sr. and Frances Stewart Michel, his paternal grandparents, J. Walter Michel, Sr. and Josephine J. Michel, his maternal grandmother, Frances R. Pepper. He is survived by his sister, Alice Michel Fairley, and nephews, John D. Fairley, III and Christopher M. Fairley, his beloved dog, Neil, as well as numerous cousins and dear friends. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial to Animal Rescue Fund in Jackson, MS, The Salvation Army or a charity of your choice. Arrangements will be announced at a later date (TBD).
