Obituary for Betty Ruth Davis

Mom/Nanny passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, July 15, in Florence, MS, surrounded by her children and later by her grandchildren. She left this side of heaven knowing she was greatly loved and her wishes honored.

Born Betty Ruth Hall on June 1, 1934 to the late Leonard B. Hall and Willie Grace Gean Hall. She grew up outside of Oxford, Ms., in Lafayette County. She married the late W.A. Davis on November 12, 1949, in Hernando, Ms. They had 5 children together.

She is survived by her children, Timothy A. Davis Sr. (Shelby), of Florence, MS; Mitzi G. Durham (Roger), of Yazoo City, MS; Sheila J. Buie (Rick), of Canton, MS; Michael Scott Davis (Cindy), of Terry, MS; Jennifer K. Bagwell (Ronnie), of Brandon, MS; Grandchildren, Carrie M. McNeilly (Jason), Timothy A. Davis Jr. (Amber), Allison C. McCue (Daniel), Michael P. Davis (Spencer), Chancee L. Anderson (Taylor), Valerie E. Ward (Robert), Z. Seth Bagwell, Gentry S. Davis, Lindsey G. Buie, Ricky Buie (Brandi), Ashley Buie and T.J. Buie (Kimberly); 16 Great Grandchildren with 2 on the way, 4 Great Great Grandchildren, Ms Kitty and Patches, her cat and pup dog. Also Sisters, Pencie A. Latham of Paris, and Diane Huckaby, with many nieces and nephews. (She was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 3 sisters.)

Betty loved her family fiercely and her life revolved around them. She always made birthdays and holidays special by cooking and baking everyone’s favorites. If she hugged you she loved you! She was a hugger! Her love for God was evident in everything she did and said. She loved reading her Bible and listening to Shepherd’s Chapel. She was a member of Lakeshore Baptist Church and Beulah Memorial Baptist Church prior to moving her letter.

She worked for State Farm Insurance/Larry Zachary for 25 years. She loved her clients and worked hard to make sure they were well taken care of with quality assistance. She was the best! Upon retirement she moved back to the country where she lived out the years loving her family, cooking, baking, gardening and sitting on her front porch drinking her favorite blend of black coffee and smoking her cigarettes.

In lieu of flowers and plants please donate to Hospice Ministries Inc., 428 Greenwood Lane, Ridgeland, Ms. 39157, or St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or your favorite charity.

The Family will have a private service at a later date per Nanny’s wishes.
