Betty Jean Patterson, 91, passed away on September 13, 2023, in Jackson, Mississippi with family by her side. Her funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 17, 2023, at 3:00pm at First Baptist Church, Jackson, with visitation prior to the service from 1:30pm until 3:00pm. A private family graveside service will be held on Monday morning, September 18, at Lakewood Memorial Park in Clinton, Mississippi.
Betty Jean, as she was affectionately known to all, was born on December 5, 1931, in Atlanta, Georgia. She attended Shorter University in Rome, Georgia and furthered her education at Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi. She loved music and enthusiastically shared that passion as a piano teacher and accompanist. She was an exceptionally talented and gifted musician. She owned the Yamaha Music School of Jackson and inspired many students through her instruction. Throughout the years, she received numerous recognitions and awards honoring her excellence in teaching, in community service and in church commitment. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Jackson. She loved serving in the music and media ministry of the church, especially the time spent as the pianist for the Reflections Choir. Her faith in the Lord and her love for her family guided her life journey. She was kind, generous, encouraging, classy, and hospitable to all. She was everyone's best friend.
Betty Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Doris Pinson and son-in-law, Russ Mckesson. She is survived by her children: Terri McKesson, Rob Patterson (Janet), Cathy Brown (Bobby), Gregg Patterson (Ali) and daughter-in-law Frances Patterson. She is also survived by her 11 grandchildren: Brian McKesson, Kelli Vining (Matt), Claire January (Will), Daniel Patterson (Taylor), Michael Patterson, Jason Brown (Elizabeth), Lindsey Davis (Seth), Rooks Patterson (Rachel), Revell Patterson (Haley), Russell Patterson, and Olivia Patterson, and her 14 great-grandchildren: Cody, Grayson, Gavin, and Lily McKesson, Levi and Lexi Vining, Jack and Charles January, Emmy and Rex Davis, Tristen and Payton Patterson, and Emerson and Hayden Patterson.
The family would like to thank everyone who cared for Betty Jean and loved her so very well.
